Holy Cow Dung and Nonsensical Bullshit

(A very old article - re-sharing it.)

Once, a forward I received via WhatsApp amused me. It said, “The biggest example of gender discrimination:

Cow dung is holy, whereas bullshit is not. ” As a response to the stimulus, I decided that this was a pun on women by some male chauvinist out there. But once the amusement turned a musing, I realised that, this was the voice of a true feminist...

A slight deviation at this juncture...There was a judicial judgement on a rape case which came out saying that “the man pounced on the girl like a wicked wolf, on a delicate deer”. But looking at it don’t we feel that if one is a wicked wolf, then the other has to be an ‘unwicked wolf’.. But in the common parlance, (by which I mean, in the way I have heard many speak) women seem to be considered an altogether different species. A ‘second sex’. But at the same time, it is important to note that, this attitude has changed among men to a great extent.

While some women see themselves as a lower or rather different species.

Men and women are never the same, which is why, one is “man ” and the other is “woman”. But they are to enjoy an equal status, which is fair enough an argument, because being ‘alike’ is different from being ‘equal’.

We know that women have the divine duty to keep the generation going, which is why, to safeguard themselves they refrain from certain activities. That makes them no less capable than men.

However, it gravely disappoints me when I see that in the current era, women turn out to be either a lot of whiners who harp on their inabilities, or a lot who submissively takes in everything that falls on them or a lot who merely asserts their rights and calls themselves “feminists”. Let’s abandon this cliched notion, because it is high time we did. To use the opportunities to our advantage and to work as hard as others, is the only way to liberate from the conservative, and orthodox shackles, forged by the society. We are the one we had been waiting for. Let us not go in for reservation, or special quotas...Let us take it on a level playing field, because the need of the hour is mutual respect and acceptance by all means and sense. When the word was merely “gender discrimination”, we women, happily took it over as our burden. But now, a true feminist, whether a man or a woman, has brought to our notice that, the perspective needs to be widened and rationalized.

And if there happens to be a batch of our male counterparts who still choose to look down upon women, the following lines are only for their eyes;

Let us bear in mind that there is

a “man” in every woman,

a “male” in every female,

and a “he” in every she... Thus by acknowledging and respecting them, you are acknowledging and respecting yourselves. And from now on, may the world be a blissful county of “a he for a she”...
